Southern FS and the Jackson County Farm Bureau are teaming up to demonstrate the impact of implementing 4R nutrient stewardship practices for nitrogen and phosphorus. A DNT weather station will be part of the information gathering process.
Tony Boyle, Crop Specialist at Southern FS in Murphysboro is working on a nitrogen management plot. This nitrogen management plot is looking at five different nitrogen rates and sources.
Corn growth stage is at V5-V6. This plot has received scattered heavy rain events since planting. Next steps for the plot are to make additional nitrogen applications before crop stage V8 and take soil nitrogen tests.
